In March 2026 not-for-profit PlanetPlay unveiled for the Habitats: the most ambitious environmental mobilisation the games industry has ever attempted.

Uniting studios, publishers, 100+ games, major creators and millions of players worldwide, the campaign is aiming to raise $1 million for global conservation partners Rainforest Alliance and Oceana.

The initiative comprises community activations, in-game DLC, challenges, side quests and live ops, starting on Earth Day (April 22) and culminating on World Environment Day (June 5), demonstrating how games can turn player engagement into real-world environmental action.

But Battle for the Habitats is just the latest evolution of PlanetPlay’s Make Green Moves (MGM): a pioneering, ongoing campaign that empowers studios to embed sustainability into their games through PC marketplace sales, live-ops activations and community events.

Rather than a one-off promotion, MGM functions as a scalable industry platform, enabling studios of all sizes to participate with minimal development overhead, while delivering both player engagement and measurable environmental impact.

Across 2025/26, MGM has powered a wide range of high-profile initiatives, including:

– The Green Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025 was the first ever global showcase dedicated to environmentally impactful games, raising $150,000 towards habitat restoration and hosted by respected journalist Will Freeman, who was joined by Sir Ian Livingstone CBE.

– Live-Ops Game Activations, such ZeptoLab’s Bullet Echo Wildlife Festival for World Wildlife Day (March 3, 2026), show how even competitive multiplayer titles can integrate environmental themes and support environmental projects without disrupting gameplay.

– Meanwhile, Expedition 22 (November 2025) was a curated PC games bundle on the PlanetPlay marketplace, supported by the likes of ustwo games, Curve and Ninja Theory – for just $22 players could pick up 9 critically-acclaimed titles worth $150, raising over $5k for certified environmental projects.

– In addition, all regular PC game sales year-round on the PlanetPlay games marketplace (350k registered users, 4k games) ensure players can buy top titles knowing that proceeds are supporting green projects with real world impact.

Crucially, for all the above MGM campaign activations, 100% of PlanetPlay’s profit after developer revenue share and transaction costs is channelled to Gold Standard certified environmental projects.

MGM has already delivered tangible results across both commercial and environmental metrics.

– Over 30 games from 20 studios have participated in MGM activations across mobile, PC and console ecosystems.
– Since launch, MGM has channelled $2.2+ million in funding for Gold Standard-certified environmental projects, including the Green.Earth Hongera Energy Efficient Cookstoves Project in Kenya.
– MGM has contributed to saving 31,459 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to 157,293 trees preserved.

For studios, MGM has delivered increased visibility through industry showcases, creator partnerships and global media coverage, driving strong player participation and monetisation during campaign periods.

Just as importantly, MGM aligns with evolving player expectations. PlanetPlay’s Play2Act research with the UN Development Programme shows that 79% of players exposed to environmental content in games reported making greener lifestyle choices.

Planetplay’s MGM campaign proves that environmental action can be creative, collaborative and commercially viable.
